Renovation into high standard apartments

A lot of properties in Amsterdam date back to before the Second World War. The floors in these properties are often wooden structural floors. When the properties are renovated and turned into luxury apartments, extra attention is paid to these floors. The acoustic insulation used rarely meets the current requirements in the Buildings Decree. When the property at Beethovenstraat 4 in Amsterdam South was renovated, the expertise of Imbema SMT was called on in order to tackle the problems with noise being transmitted through the floors with underfloor heating.

Not much room for sound insulation

Beethovenstraat in Amsterdam is known as a chic shopping street which even has its own website and Facebook page. Consequently, Beethovenstraat is an extremely popular place to live. At the start of 2015, the grand property at the end of the street – number 4 – was turned into high-quality luxury apartments by contractor Van Mourik Bouw B.V.. Comfortable underfloor heating was installed underneath the wooden floors. The floors then had to be acoustically insulated in such a way that the nuisance caused by impact sound would no longer be a problem. But the extra height of the floors meant that there was little room left for insulating material.

High level of acoustic performance

Contractor Van Mourik Bouw from Ophemert had already worked with Imbema SMT on similar projects within the luxury segment with high requirements regarding impact sound. The experts at Imbema SMT recommended using Upgrei insulation matting from Isolgomma. This matting made from 92% recycled material is just 8 mm thick and provides a high level of acoustic performance. The Upgrei was laid on the wooden floor. Then the underfloor heating was installed and the screed poured.
